Research and New Strategies for Improving Healthcare Provided to Children and Adolescents in the Emergency Department Research groups

The main objective of our research group is to improve the healthcare provided to children and adolescents in the Paediatric Emergency Department: Emergency Pathology in childhood and adolescence.These are the main lines of research:

Infectious pathology

Objective: Identify patients with potential severe bacterial infection

Coordinators: Santiago Mintegi Raso; Borja Gómez Cortés

  • Observational studies with registry of patients (breastfeeding infant below 3 months of age, bacterial isolation in blood and Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)).
  • Prospective cohort studies in order to evaluate the efficiency of diagnostics tests or changes in the management of these patients.
  • Epidemiological studies of the prevalence of invasive bacterial disease.

Respiratory pathology

Objective: Reduction of morbidity of acute respiratory pathology, asthma, bronchiolitis and laryngitis.

  • Prospective cohort studies in order to evaluate changes in the management of these patients.
  • Clinical trials with several treatment strategies

Analgesia and sedation

Objective: Improvement of situations with anxiety and/or pain

  • Prospective cohort studies in order to evaluate changes in the management of these patients.

Poisoning
